sustainable desalination

april 2005: the water corporation of western australia entrusts degremont with the design, construction and 25 years’ operation of the fi rst reverse osmosis facility for perth (140,000 m3/d).

november 2006: the first water is fed into the fi rst two 2 reverse osmosis racks. the plant reaches maximum output mid-January 2007. The Perth facility uses a new pressure-exchange energy recovery process that improves conventional performance by 15 to 20%. To minimise the impact of the brackish water effl uent, Degremont has introduced a discharge pipe 200 m long, perpendicular to the current in the bay. Water corp. has installed a wind farm to supply green energy to the plant.
